The Persians are the guys with 6,000 troops in ground combat roles in Iraq, fighting ISIS. Plus they have artillery and air force units going 24/7. A similar number of Quds/Jerusalem Force commandos are on the ground up in Syria doing Da'ish and al Nusrah.
(Yeah, corporate MSM are still telling you that there are "Moderate Syrian Rebels" and the mad dog al-Q/Saudi proxies were useful 2008-2012 cuz they opposed the Satanic/Shi'ia regime in Damascus. Whatever. Their crap broke my bullshxt meter years ago.)
CIA still wants to send $$$$$ to Hillary and John's "Moderate Syrian Rebels." Why not drop the money on Carlyle Investment and save the middle men?

In Iraq the game is played differently. Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq (AAH) and the Sunni tribes are competing for the craziest torture-the-ISIS-creep video award.

Corporate MSM still report that ISIS slaughtered the Iraqi Security Force at Mosul, then overran their units everywhere else. That ISF is useless.
But fact is, once the fight got past that initial bribery-driven debacle at Mosul, back June 2014, ISIS has not won a single head-on battle. The most they've done is suicide attacks where the bombs killed a few ISF guys. That and another bribery event that ended with ISIS slaughtering Air Force cadets and other trainees by the many hundreds. The kids' bodies were still washing down the Tigris a month later.
The big ISIS attack groups got surrounded and annihilated at Tikrit, Amerli, and Jurf al-Sakhar.
Iran is supplying the professional leadership and technical expertise, but it's the Iraqis slaughtering ISIS at 2,000 a month. And now they've got useful American assistance with A-10C Warthogs flying daily out of Al Asad. This means there's a 5 or 10 minute reaction time for hitting anything that ISIS moves on wheels.
Maybe Bush43 was right, giving Iraq to Iran. Not his intention but no question that's his greatest contribution to political history.
